Custom knife making blends my career as an artist with my appreciation and respect for nature as an all-around outdoorsman.
My interest started with the first pocketknife my dad gave me as a boy. As I grew older and used other knives for fishing and hunting, I began researching how fixed blade knives were made. In 2000, I decided to try my own hand at knife making.
My first knives were a bit crude. But with the knowledge from books and valuable tips from some highly respected knife making professionals, my skill as a knife maker grew considerably over the next couple years.
In 2002, I established a consecutive numbering system.
Each knife I create is now signed and numbered. The numbers correspond to the original sketches in my design books. Any knife purchaser may request a copy of the original sketch of their knife.
I have been inspired greatly by the works of William Scagel, Bill Moran, Jay Hendrickson and Ed Fowler. However, I still enjoy creating my own designs.
A handmade custom knife is part tool, part work of art. I am always happy to discuss a custom piece if there is a design that inspires you.
